The Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg participated in a financial mission here in Qatar early March this year. He was accompanied by 60 entrepreneurs and professionals of the financial sector. During his visit, he met the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. The Minister of Finance of the Grand Duchy, Pierre Gramegna, was also present.

By size, number of inhabitants, wealth and also the economic profile, Qatar and Luxembourg are similar. The common point that ties these two countries is the financial sector.

In 2011, a Qatari investment fund acquired the Dexia BIL and KBL, two banks operating in Luxembourg. Incidentally, the Grand Duchy also envisions in becoming a key place in the Islamic finance and Sharia-compliant banking sector.

Considering all these factors, the two countries can help each other, explains Pierre Gramegna, Minister of Finance of Luxembourg.

Qatar-Luxembourg : deux pays semblables qui peuvent s’entraider

Le Grand-Duc héritier du Luxembourg était au Qatar début mars. Dans le cadre d’une mission financière au Moyen-Orient, il a passé quelques heures à Doha durant lesquelles il a rencontré l’Émir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Soixante entrepreneurs et professionnels du secteur financier avaient fait le déplacement avec lui. Également présent, le Ministre des Finances du Grand-Duché, Pierre Gramegna.

Par la taille, par le nombre d’habitants, par la richesse mais aussi par le profil économique le Qatar et le Luxembourg se ressemblent. Principal point commun, la finance.

Un fond d’investissement du Qatar a racheté en 2011 Dexia BIL et KBL, deux banques présentes au Luxembourg. Le Grand-Duché veut par ailleurs devenir une importante place de la finance islamique.

Les deux pays peuvent donc s’entraider, explique Pierre Gramegna.
